    Bsod irql_not_less_or_equal & driver_power_state_failur

I did a clean install of Windows 7 and have had numerous issues not the least of which has been the occasional (once per day) BSOD.

    I've had two types:
    Driver_Power_State_Failure
    IRQL_Not_Less_Or_Equal

If anyone would be so kind, I have no expertise in reading the dmp files which are included. Per instruction on this site, I did a memory boot test and let it run for 5 hours with no errors.

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction. This is getting really annoying. I switched from XP to Windows 7 because I'd heard how magnificent it was. I've had regular lockups but now the BSOD is taken the issues to a new level.

I really don't have that much installed on this HP XW4550T. BTW, I have never received the BSOD while I've been working so it must have something to do with iot not being able to come out of suspend or hibernate. Thanks again.

These were both caused by your usbhub.sys.

    I would
download a fresh copy and install it
    run a system file check
Type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

    If you are overclocking stop

    Let us know the results

Gosh, thanks Ken for the lightning quick reply. I appreciate your effort. No, I'm not attempting to overclock. When you say, "download a fresh copy", I'm not quite certain if you mean for me to extract usbhub.sys from my Windows 7 disk, or to find it online.

It seems that most searching for that file point to Windows ME. Can you point me in the right direction in terms of obtaining that file. I assume "install" simply means to copy that file to the location where the current file is located. Am I going to encounter a problem there with the file being in use? Thanks again, Ken. I'll do a system scan right now.

Ken, I ran the recommended scan and the created CBS.LOG file was over 10mb. I have not included it because I didn't know if uploading a file of this size was appropriate. The end message, after running the scan, said that it could not fix the errors but to consult the CBS.LOG file...which I couldn't make heads or tails of. Thanks again, Ken.

USBHUB.SYS is a core Windows file. I would try this to fix it:
    SFC.EXE /SCANNOW
Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)
At the top of the search box, right click on the cmd.exe and select "Run as adminstrator"
In the black window that opens, type "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
Let the program run and post back what it says when it's done.

Beyond that I would suspect (in this order):
    - attached USB devices
    - programs that run the attached USB devices
    - the USB ports on the computer

Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned above, I ran the Scan but there was no fix applied. It returned a 10mb file. I guess I'll enclose it. I was hesitant because I didn't know the protocol. I couldn't make heads or tails out of the CBS.log file. Thanks again.

I've got some vision problems - so I just noticed this:
I've been working so it must have something to do with iot not being able to come out of suspend or hibernate.
Please have a look at these 2 Microsoft KB articles to see if you fit either scenario:
Stop error when you put a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to sleep or into hibernation, or when you restart the computer: "0x9F"

Error message when you try to resume a Windows 7-based or a Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer from hibernation: "Stop 0x0000009F"

USASMA, thanks for the thoughts. Neither one of those conditions (regarding the hotfix) fit my situation.

I would still like to know why the SCE.Exe scan was not able to solve my problem. Do you know how to read the CBS.log?

And Ken, I have no idea how to obtain and install the usbhub.sys file?

    The USB devices connected are:

    Epson Perfection 3170 Scanner
    Epson Stylus Photo R260
    Apple Keyboard
    Logitech Mouse
    Logitech headphones
    Filemate Modem
    Sandisk Imagemate 8 in 1

When the computer is unattended, I also get a an occasional deep and rather loud pop coming from my speakers. My dogs think someones at the front door. :) Something seems to attempting to bring the computer out of dormancy.

    Thanks!

Just got a new BSOD error message last night: Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area. The minidump is included. Still wondering what the CBS.Log might tell us and I'm still at a loss as to how to replace the potentially corrupt USBHUB.SYS. Thanks!

I can't easily read the CBS.log files - they just don't make much sense to me!
This entry says everything is OK, but what about all the stuff before it?
2010-02-13 11:29:16, Info CSI 000002ee [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired
I usually just figure it's all OK unless there's other issues (my faith in the System File Protection utility may be misplaced).

There is nothing that says usbhub.sys is corrupted, I just had you run SFC.EXE to be sure that it wasn't corrupted. In most cases of this sort, it's the hardware or the drivers for the device that are the problem (we assume Windows files are OK because System File Protection is present).

More to follow - I'm in a conference right now....
