Windows Explorer Slows down When Looking at Computer

Any tips appreciated about steps to diagnose and correct:

From time to time when I open Windows Explorer it appears to attempts to look at my computer and our network but never completes this. The green progress bar slowly progresses over the top, but never makes it. Sometimes a few of the hard drives show up. Sometimes they show up my name but the information regarding their capacity is missing. Occasionally all of the researchers show up after many minutes but then any effort to browse into any of the folders additionally appears to fundamentally lock up Explorer. TaskManager does not say that Explorer is not responding. None of the four cores appear to be occupied significantly. None of the processes appear to be taking up a large number of resources unexpectedly.

Any thoughts appreciated. I am running Windows 764 bit ultimate edition with 8 GB of RAM

Thank you in advance.

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

I guess we have to rule out somethings first. Most of the crashing and non-responding happens when there bad driver or out-dated driver. Make sure you have all the updated drivers installed.

Run the Disk Defragmenter also perform a HD Diagnostic. Also check the Event Viewer see whether you find any error

Start > Run > Event Viewer > Windows Log > Application and post us if you find any error.

Good Luck,
Captain

Thank you for your thoughts!

Thank you for your thoughts. Actually I'm using one of the SSD drives. Windows states that the driver is up to date. I guess these don't defragment

Rebooting Windows corrects the problem for at least a little while. I did not see any other applications locking up at the same time.

Thank you again. I'll see what becomes of it.

Kevin,

Post us the MSINFO32 file

Quote:
MSINFO32
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type "msinfo32 /nfo C:\Users\Public\Desktop\TEST.NFO\" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to the C:\Users\Public\Desktop directory to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. - Info by John

Progress bar never quite gets done

I made a number of changesbut the problem persists. After reboot Windows Explorer can we see all the drives and all the network resources easily. After some time if I open Windows Explorer the resources show up very slowly and the progress bar really never gets to the end. I am not sure what causes this other than prolonged use after a boot. Attached is my text file relating to the system configuration

Problem resolved.I do not know which of the two changes I made on another computer on my network resolve this problem. I switched that computer from Windows XP professional 32-bit to Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit. I switched from Norton 362 to a combination of Microsoft Security Essentials and Malware bytes. Apparently when my principal computer went out of the network it would get hung up scanning this machine and demonstrate the symptoms above. It stopped doing that immediately with those two changes. Just an FYI
