Windows 7 Crashes with Vertical Lines

Hola everyone,

I want to first thank you for trying to help me. I recently built a computer with windows 7 ultimate 64 and have been having issues with it suddenly crashing with veridical lines at any given moment. It does not seem to be associated with downloading or browsing. I have tried to update my video card driver and also my motherboard BIOS but it has not seemed to help. My specs under my Username at this site are all current for the new build. Any help would be appreciated.

The error is a STOP 0x124. The STOP 0x124 errors are primarily hardware issues, with some being attributable to hardware/driver incompatibility. I believe that they can also be caused by driver corruption - but not all analysts agree with me on this point.

Since you're having issues with video, I'd suspect that first. Do you have another video card that you can try? have you removed and reset the card? You can also try this free video stress test:

FurMark Setup:
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

FYI - it appears that all your drivers are updated.

Thanks for your reply. I did not have a video card but I returned my previous one and got an NVidia gtx 260. I ran the video card stress test which did not cause excessively high temps nor did it cause my system to fail.

I have been having some issues with my ram. I completed the memtest without problems but the memory86 program did not run. Does it usually take an extremely long time.

I also did some digging in my computer and found that I had put 6gb per second cables on my 3gb hard drive and optical drive. Would that cause the system to become unstable? I have not had the issues since I have changed them. (1 day) I hope this is not just coincidence.

So far so good. I will post if the issue returns. Hopefully this is my last post in this thred.
