Well, I have swapped the HDD with another laptop. I am waiting for one of the laptops to freeze. It's been about 1.5 hours and nothing has happened yet. I just assume that if the one with the old HDD in it freezes, then it's probably just a HDD issue. If the original computer with the other HDD in it frezes then it's probably an issue with some other piece of hardware.

If nothing happens to either, then I am just not sure...any help on this?

EDIT: Just in case it matters, the specs on the other laptop:

    Toshiba/Satellite P500
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 2.00GHz
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 (1GB)

And the other HDD that is currently in the 'problem laptop' has Windows Vista on it.

So, it's been almost 3 hours. Nothing has happened on either laptop. I've been playing games on both and no freezing.

So, if it continues like this then what might be a cause for the original laptop to freeze only with the original HDD in it?

Well, the original laptop just froze after I restarted it for an update. It had the other HDD in it, so I'm assuming it is an issue with some other piece of hardware. I really don't know where to go from here, so I would greatly appreciate some help.

Though if I cannot get help here (since it's not a Windows 7 problem) could someone direct me to a better place?

    Oh my god

I AM HAVING THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

I was running Windows 7 RC (build 7100) on both my desktop and laptop pretty much since it came out last year. I recently wiped my desktop PC and installed a brand spankin' new version of Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The horribly frustrating thing is that World of Warcraft causes a SOLID freeze every time I try to log into a character in a crowded area (i.e. main city) but works fine if I'm in a remote game area with little activity. My computer is more than capable of running the game at full settings and I logged months of game time on Windows 7 RC; the only thing that has changed is my OS. I even saved a copy of my old WoW folder in its entirety and can run the game out of that, but it still freezes.

It's a VERY reliable freeze--only happens when I log into a character in a populated area, and happens EXACTLY when the loading bar hits full. There is no sign of anything going wrong before then. I've un/re-installed drivers, reinstalled Win7, run it in safe mode, compatibility mode, turned off my CPU overclock, and just about every other trick I know. I'm an experienced system builder and this is just downright weird.

It almost seems like a very basic hardware or driver failure of some sort. Someone please help because I hate raiding on my laptop!
