Invalid boot.ini file

Hello all, two days ago I upgraded FROM windows vista ultimate TO windows 7 x86 ultimate on my HP pavillion dv9005us laptop.

I had no problems on vista, and it worked fine after an upgrade to 7 for a day. And then it rebooted and goes through the window that gives you the option to change boot order or run setup, then goes to a black screen and up in the left hand corner flashes quickly "invalid boot.ini file running c:windows".

I have the windows vista ultimate disk I purchased, but do not have a disk for windows 7 since it was a download through my engineering program at my university.

I am really at a loss as what to do, and hopefully there is something rather easy I can do.
