Win7 64bit Random crashes - No errors - Please help!
Hi everyone,
Ever since I installed Windows 7 I've been having problems with random crashes.
The only link I can see between each crash is that when it happens I'm often running something disk intensive (Installing programs, downloading, copying files etc.), but it also happens at other times such as when I'm just browsing the web or listening to music.
I can always tell a minute or so before it's going to happen, applications stop responding and I can't switch between them - My mouse cursor starts egg timing and then after 30 seconds or so everything stops responding completely. If I have music running it starts looping the last 10/15 seconds of the song that was playing before the crash. I have to do a reset on my PC every time this happens.
If I leave my pc for an hour or two and my monitor goes to standby, I often have to manually power my PC off and back on because it won't wake up - I'm assuming this is just because it crashes while the monitor is in standby.
I've checked through my event logs each time it happens and the most I can ever find is:
"The previous system shutdown at 19:52:48 on 21/02/2010 was unexpected."
To try and fix the problem I've already tried:
- Reinstalling Windows 7 and installing all available updates
- Upgrading to latest Chipset and Graphics drivers.
- Upgrading my BIOS
- Changing Power Saving options to High Performance and disabling "Turn off hard disk after idle time" option.
I ran chkdsk which didn't find any bad sectors, I've checked through my BIOS several times and can't see any obvious config issues.
This is only happening since I've been using Windows 7, I've used XP 32 bit and Ubuntu Linux 64 bit in the past without any problems - All my hardware details should be on my user profile, please let me know if you need any other info.
I would really appreciate any help!
Thanks
Jamie
