Well the latest help from the HP Tech support had me do a 'destructive' restore of my OS to try to fix the BSOD problems. I think it reduced the frequency, but had another this morning. I've attached the minidump...

    Hello Welcome to SF,

I guess the problem is casued by Symantec Heuristics Driver (BHDrvx64.sys). Remove your Symantec and see whether that makes any difference.

Run the Memory Diagnostic & HD Diagnostic
Start > CMD > Right Click and Run as Administrator > SFC /SCANNOW
    Code:

    SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (3b)
An exception happened while executing a system service routine.
    Arguments:
Arg1: 00000000c000001d, Exception code that caused the bugcheck
Arg2: fffff880070e66b7, Address of the exception record for the exception that caused the bugcheck
    Arg3: fffff8800962b9c0, Address
    Drivers to be updated

    Code:

    adp94xx.sys Sat Dec 06 05:24:42 2008
    arc.sys Fri May 25 02:57:55 2007
    iirsp.sys Wed Dec 14 03:17:54 2005
    lsi_fc.sys Wed Dec 10 04:16:09 2008
    nfrd960.sys Wed Jun 07 02:41:48 2006
    SiSRaid2.sys Wed Sep 24 23:58:20 2008
    Hope this helps,
    Captain

Try opening an elevated command prompt and running sfc /scannow. That will scan for bad system files and repair them.

    Hey Captain!
    Thanks for the welcome.

What's up with the ANCIENT(2005?) drivers on a NEW laptop? What do you suggest for obtaining updated drivers?
    thanks!

4 BSOD crashes since 8:30 pm!!

    I've attached the minidump files...

    Anyone have any ideas?

Johnathan_King... I did download the Driver Easy program and it helped update some drivers, but not with any of the old drivers listed above. They're all for RAID drives (which I'm not using), so not sure why they'd be showing up in the dump files...

I guess its pointing dxgmms1.sys. So it's also worth reinstalling your Display driver. If oyur using addtional display card then remove it use the on-board display adapter see whether that makes any difference. Reinstall your Direct X driver. I hope you have uninstalled your Norton or Symantec. Update your RAID driver. The driver is dated 2005 more likely that might be also one of the cause.

Ensure that the machine is adequately cooled. If there is any doubt, open up the side of the PC case (be mindful of any relevant warranty conditions!) and point a mains fan squarely at the motherboard. That will rule out most (lack of) cooling issues.

You could also Run free video stress test: FurMark: Graphics Card Stability and Stress Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net
Try this free stress test: Free Software - GIMPS

    Hope this helps,
    Captain
