System rebooting / freezing @ (seemingly) random times

Here is a screenshot of the last few critical errors. there have been another two reboots since and one freeze before i could post it. The whole thing has become untenable. I'm on my knees here, so please any other sugestions?

Sorry for delayed replay !!

OK now since you have troubleshooted the software related issue lets run some Hardware Test

Run the Memory Diagnostic & HD Diagnostic

Hope this helps,
Captain

well that'll do it, i've been running the Memtest since 8:30 this morning. So far its up to 68000000 errors and climbing. It takes a while to go through 8gb of memory i take it :) its still at 67%.

I'll run the HD test if it ever finishes just to be sure thats the only problem.

That is a shocking amount of errors.

Could it be your RAM timings are wrong in your BIOS? Be careful not to change it if you don't know what you're doing.

i'll have to pull them to check exact make and model to look up the specs to make sure. Its at 71% and 73000000 errors or so. it seems to have stalled though.

I think i see a new system in my future.

Got the spec, but didn't see anywhere in the BOIS to change the Ram timings so i left it alone. The HD scan didn't come up with anything so it must be the memory. I'll run it again tomorrow to be sure.

KE, I agree with Jonathan. Either your memory is really bad, but I doubt your computer would even start if it was the case, or you have the wrong BIOS setup. If you haven't knowingly changed any setup to correct another problem, I suggest you revert to the defaults. That should put the memory timings in Auto. Then run memtest again. You might want to run on each stick separately. You probably will more easily single out a bad one this way (it will probably start generating errors at the very beginning if it is really bad)

well i take that back. i did find where to tweak the timings, but it scared the crap outta me so i left it alone.

If either of you know of such things then: heres a link to the bios settings
Asus CrossHair - Page 5 - The BIOS

my memory is:
OCZ2P8004GK PC2 6400 CL 5-4-4

@wallyinnc It was running this morning for an 1:30 (20%) before i left without any errors so they can't all be bad. I hadn't changed any setting in the BIOS previously as far as i know it is all on auto. Well it being Paddy's day on wed, got a few days off after :) so i can check each of the sticks individually, before i just go get new ones.

That makes it sound like you have a bad slot. Try testing one stick in each of your slots individually.

Hi all,

Well it been a week or so and no more crashes, i've got two sticks in and running fine so the problem is definatly either slot A2 or B2.

So new mother board its then, but i think i'll wait a while :) Anyway many many thanks wallyinnc, Jonathan_King and Capt.Jack!!!

Aidan

No worries, i am a little curious to know about what might of happened to the slot to damage it. *shrugh* All hardware fails eventually i suppose.

It could be a power surge, or static electricity, or anything else that damaged the slot.
