    I don't know if formatting back to NTFS will make data none recoverable. I would not want to risk that. I am looking for more info, but I don't know what will happen with it.

    It could be recovered, but not easily. I'm wondering if using an external enclosure would make a difference in what is seen. What do you think?

    open, explore, search, format, copy, create shortcut, rename and properties

    Nothing new. Do you see anything weird under Properties. I'm guessing pressing open gives the same result as before.

    yeah I was thinking that too. I dont know if a USB linked enclosure would be any better...

    I was thinking, but didn't want to suggest taking to store yet if it can be recovered here, but a Computer Repair Shop would probably be able to restore it.

    What program did you spend $45 on? I've heard of a lot of weird problems binge solved be using an external enclosure. They seem to be $20-40 on newegg. A cheap one would suffice.
