Windows 7 64bit professional, kernel power error 41

As ive seen on this forum there seems to be alot people having the same sort of problem as i have. Windows 7 just seems to randomly restart without warning and all i can find in the event lot is kernel power event 41 error. ive done so many different things to try n find out the source of this problem and solve it but as yet ive had no luck.

i upgraded my pc to windows 7 just after christmas. i then had to upgrade to 4gb of RAM so that it would run obviously. since then i have added a new hardrive which seems to work fine. these random restarts have been happening since i upgraded but i cant exactly remember when they started.

ive scratched my head on this one for weeks trying to figure out the problem and i have done as follows:

1) Downloaded and installed upto date drivers
2) Run a complete virus scan
3) Cleaned all my fans
4) put more thermal paste onto my processor because it seemed to be lacking abit
5) installed a new power supply
6) checked for over heating

when i finally gave up i took it into a pc specialist and he checked everything over. after a week and a half he decied that the RAM was not paired up correctly. he also sed that my SATA cables where twisted and could have a small break in them which he has replaced.

ive just got the pc back today and within an hour of having it its randomly restarted again with no warning. i am at a lose as to what to do next.

any help would be greatly appricated :)

Hi and welcome

First thing is to uncheck auto restart in system control panel (see pic)

Next time it dies it wont reboot and you will either have a dMP file (if blue screen) or a log in event viewer.

Also might be cured in a clean install.

I would also run a system file check to verify and repair your system files
You do that by typing cmd in searc>right click and run as admin>
sfc /scannow

thanks for replying. ive already turned the auto restart off but i havent got anything different. ive also looked into a clean install again but from what ive read from the the other threads people have still had this problem. im currently away for a few days but ill see if it helps any when i go back on monday

just as a quick update. ive come back from a weekend away and my computer seemed fine. 24 hours later it randomly restarted again with no warning of any kind. ive done a check on my system files and everything is as it should be there as well as turning the auto restart feature off. however i didnt get any file after i booted the computer back up. i am currently waiting on my windows 7 discs being posted to me so i can do a clean install. after this im not sure what i can do, ive read many threads on this site and have found the people to be friendly and welcoming. has anyone else got any more advice they could give me?

thanks for getting bk. ive done a system repair with my windows 7 disc as well as going through the strat up options and turning everyhting off that i dont need. although im a little confused as to what to turn off in task scheduler. i already have all the latest drivers and windows 7 updates. they are all installed correlty as ive checked and double checked

In task scheduler I found stuff like google chrome updater and a bunch of other things which were related to other software. Look under location column - if it isn't directly related to Microsoft.

thanks for the tip mhk1058. my last restart was on monday around about lunch time and i havent had a single restart since. i think you must be right with this being a bug rather then a hardware problem just wish i realised before spending unnessecary money on it. ah well thanks again

That's great, glad it helped. Just wish I knew exactly what was causing it, can't seem to find a common cause but I reckon there is a conflict/bug in w7 that will get sorted by MS eventually.

Had this problem on 2 different systems. I was able to solve it by turning off Intel speedstep in the bios. I also noticed others had found this solution also on intels forum.
