Windows BSOD when installing Nvidia Card Drivers
Important Info:
Graphics Card: Geforce 7950 GX2
Ram: 2 Gigabytes
HDD: 400 Gigabyte SATA drive
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 (Dual Core, 2.8 Ghz)
I have a Shuttle PC, and am running the latest BIOS, not sure the version number, but I just flashed it several days ago when still on XP.
Okay, here goes. I just installed a clean copy of Windows 7 x64 Pro over Windows XP. It was a major pain, I kept getting a blue screen error when setup was 'Completing'. It was a STOP error for file nvlddmkm.sys, which after some research, I believe it to be a Nvidia file. I could not get Win7 to install.
Finally, after HOURS of research, I finally got it to work by deleting the nvlddmkm.sys files during the 'Expanding Windows Files' step. This was done via Command Prompt (Shift F10). I believe I found the steps for this process here.
Continuing, I'm finally booted into Windows, and I'm assuming that I am running the basic Windows VGA Drivers. I ran Windows Update and attempted to install the drivers for my 7950 GX2, reboot, 'Windows is Starting', BSOD. Boot into Safe Mode, uninstall drivers, install drivers from Nvidia, reboot, BSOD.
It seems that no matter what set of drivers I install, after I reboot, the computer will say 'Starting Windows' and then will get the BSOD. The code is 116, and the associated file is nvlddmkm.sys.
I know that during the install process that I deleted the nvlddmkm.sys file from two locations. I believe one was in the system32 folder, can't remember the other location. Currently, this file is not located in the drivers folder (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers).
Can you guys please help me in getting my graphics card drivers installed? No matter what I do, I get a BSOD after a reboot and BEFORE Windows loads. I have tried several versions of the driver but to no avail. I believe I might need to copy the nvlddmkm.sys file to somewhere. I do have a nvlddmkm.sy_ file that is packaged with all the drivers, but I believe it needs to be expanded?
Thanks for the help guys!
