    Windows 7 Freezing up online

I built a new computer a few months ago with Windows 7 64 bit edition. It was running fine for awhile but over the last week or so It has been frequently freezing when I am online browsing with IE or playing online games. It lasts anywhere from a few seconds to around 30 seconds and is quite annoying. I have an ATI Radeon HD 5700 and an Asus MB M4A785M MB. The Processor is an AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 Gand I have 4 GB of Ram.

I have updated Windows 7 and have the latest driver for my Radeon (driver is 8,702.0.0). I have also updated the Network Adapter I work for Verizon and have tested my DSL connection and its fine. I ran a DVD thru the computer and it ran fine.

When the Problem is happening I try to look at Task Manager, Sometimes I can see it and sometimes it will not come up but when I do have access to it does not indicate any problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Have you done an anti-virus scan? If you haven't, I highly recommend using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. It's very through.

I had run Avira but I downloaded and ran Malawarebytes. it found nothing and the problem still exists.

It happens at random times, Browsing the Net thru IE or online gaming. Whether or not the content is graphics intensive does not seems to be relevant.

I have also run ChkDSK /F and have been running memtest all night and they are not finding any errors.

Any help is greatly appreciated at this point!

Try changing your power option plan to high performance. Windows 7 has a bug that does not give hardware the proper voltage under the power saving plans.

I just realized, I built the EXACT same rig as you, except I have the 3.0GHz Phenom II X4 and I use a GeForce 9400GT. It could just be your video drivers man. Are you running a hybrid crossfire? If it's not your drives, you probably have something hidden running, like spyware.

This is the Video card I am using

    HIS H577FN1GD Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card -

I have updated the drivers and run Malware and Avira and have not found any spyware or registry issues.

I have beginning to think this is a video card issue and have sent an email to HIS. When the computer is freezing up, whether gaming or simple Browsing, It is sometimes impossible to bring up things like Task Manager too. The Reliability monitor is not usually seeing a problem except for a few "Video hardware Errors"!

I am stumped? Anyone know if these cards are having issues. I have not altered it in any way, thanks

Now that I think about it, it sounds a lot like overheating. Take a look at this thread: Windows 7 with Radeon HD 5770

First, try taking out the card and switching to the onboard Radeon HD 4200. If that works, it's definitely the card. To verify it's overheating, put the card back in and try leaving the case open and having a fan blowing cool air towards it. If it runs smoother, it's an overheating issue.
