BSOD Win 7 AMD Phenom II, Gigabyte MB

My Windows 7 64 Bit crashes randomly. I say randomly, its mostly on start up when the PC is cold. Once its up and running, its fine and can run all day without crashing. I even tried rebooting and rebooting to see if it would crash when warm but it doesn't !

I have been working with Microsoft Tech Support for nearly a week now disabling all thrid party drivers etc. but I suspect this is a HW problem somewhere. Is it possible to be temperature related ? Not suggesting any cooling problems just seems worse when PC is cold.

I am also concernced having read threads in the this forum as many of the BSOD posts relate to AMD Phenom II processors and a few to Gigabyte MBs. I have updated to the latest F6 MB BIOS today and I still have crashes on start up.

The STOP errors vary but most are Page Fault in non paged area and PFN List corrupt errors.

This has been going on for a few weeks now. Ive done start up repairs, rebuilt from the CD's, CHKDSK, Memory tests etc etc and haven't found anything !

The MB, Processor, memory & PSU are new. Both SATA drives have been used in a previous system although the system with the 500GB Western Digital drive did have occasional crashes under XP. Windows 7 was a clean install and the system has been run on the 200GB Maxtor with the WD unplugged and still crashes.

    Any suggestions ?

Should have said - updated BIOS today because System also sometimes hangs on boot I think when detecting SATA drives. Have also updaed AMD SATA Driver.

You have several causes to the crash but most point back to memory. When you tested the memory what app did you use and for how long?

    I would
download memtestx86 and run it for at least 5 passes.
    run a system file check.

to do that type cmd in search>right click and run as admins>sfc /scannow (note the space between the sfc and "/")

If this doesnt fix the situation we can get more agressive by using driver verifier.

If you are overclocking stop. If you have set your ram voltages to something other than default set them back to default.

    Let us know the results

    Thanks for your response.

I'm not overclocking and haven't adjusted voltages.

I used the Windows memory test available from boot options.

I tried the memtestx86 before posting but couldn't get it to run.

I dont have a floppy drive but downloaded to USB stick and set to boot from USB drive but couldn't get it to work. Any suggestions here ?

    I will try the SFC.

    Thanks again

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
       #4

My brother and I helped a friend build a pc with Phenom II with a gigabyte board. He got the same type of blue screen issues. At first, we thought it was the drivers so we updated all the drivers and Windows updates. The BSOD did not go away. Then we figured that it might be the PCIe - PCI express SSD solid state drive not being totally compatible. So, after about six months of really not using his machine, he loaded the Windows 7 home premium on his regular hard drive, to boot directly from it rather than the SSD drive. Still the same result. So, out of frustration, he brought it to a nice computer store and said give me something comparable to this gigabyte board with Phenom II. They recommended, and he bought a new gigabyte board with the i7 quad intel part. He put this configuration into his chassis, power supply, booted from his SSD drive and no more issues. He is very happy now.

So, I decided to see if others had the same problem. I can't say for sure its the motherboard or just the combination of Phenom II and the gigabyte motherboard.

I wanted to post this to let other's know that I have also experienced this problem and the solution that I choose was an option. Perhaps it will narrow things down a little bit more and if this combo doesn't work very well, perhaps Gigabyte will make a recommendation.
