    problem with repair.

    hi:)

finaly i upgraded my os from xp to windows 7 and everything works perfect, but (and there is always a but) , i wanted to see how the recovery options works just in case i will have problem in the future and i loged into the recovery tools and in the head of the recovery window , i am getting this:

Operating system: Unknown on (Unknown) Local Disk

now as i said the system works perfectly, i boot without problem , so why i get this messege?

i can't do system restore, can't do nothing but the dos console.

    my systme is:
    mb-DG33BU INTEL
    c2d 6550
the system installed on caviar green wd 500gb hard drive with no partition's.

    Welcome!

What recovery tools are you using? Did you create a system repair disc, or are you using your DVD?

Can you run a startup repair?

Sure, go ahead and test Startup Repair.

I can see why you can't do a system restore, because you have no restore points yet. You can also try creating one manually, and see if the system restore works then.

ok, startup repair went well, but system restore not

i created restore point and when i tried to redtore it from the recovery tools i got this messege:

"to use system restore you must specify witch windows installation to restore"
"restart your pc and choose operating system and then restore it"...or something like that.

btw, i must say that the support is very fast and kind on this forum:)

Make sure that your Windows partition is set as active.

    Partition - Mark as Active

Then try running startup repair again, and try a system restore.

well..my windows drive looks like active i mean when i do right click the option to active the partition is grey and not clickable so i guess it is active already and i can see on the drive it says boot, crash log, active (on the disk menagment.
now looks like c drive was not the first drive on the boot order so i made it first and now i will try the recovery stuff again, also will do the startup repair again.
