i had no idea. we have been having connection issues too. att just fixed the line to the house. my wife's computer crashed randomly as well. traced that to the connection, somehow. new modem kills my computer and hers randomly. new line, mostly stable, but still issues. many variables seemed to have masked the true issue. those bas...s.

anyway, back to the old modem, more stable for my wife, but all the same issues for me. my provider wants me to replace it again. no problem there. but after i replace new modem with old i still had problems, but not my wife. that is when i started thinking of bugs. but, my virus protection runs nightly and missed them.

i'll let you know if this helps. i really appreciate you help.

It does sound like a virus or something fishy. I once had a virus on one of the computers on my home network that disrupted the internet connection of all of the computers in my house.

Well the original poster said that he resolved the issue by doing a repair installation. You can do a repair installation by booting into the Windows 7 DVD and following the steps to perform a repair install. Or, if you want to make sure the problem is totally eradicated, you can move your personal files somewhere else and then reformat and perform a totally clean installation.

    just for follow up...

the problem was "fixed" for a while but it did reappear. and it got worse. the second time, no viruses or anything. multiple scans with different software found nothing. the computer would stay on for days without issues in safe mode, but that was no good. eventually the harddrive gave up. an engineer fried said that might have been the problem all along? not sure, but reinstalled clean version on to an older drive. now it stays up for days then randomly hangs. hard restart and it dies within minutes. hard restart, shut down restart and it stays up for days. i now have only windows 7 on the drive. that and antivirus and malwarebytes.

    wish this was something easy...
i also have sleep mode off.
