after several days and several hours of waiting for tests here are my results...
    1. no components are overclocked
    2. pc is more than adiquately cooled and runs under 40 degrees most of the time but never goes over 50. the problems can occur after a cold start or after using the computer a while first.
    3. all drivers up to date.
    4. motherboard bios was already done before i posted this issue and is the latest.
    5. windows is fully up to date.
    6. mdched run extended test over 2 passes with no problems. chkdsk /r run no problems detected.
    7. operating system installed fresh 3 times now and same problems occur. as far as software goes because this problem is random and intermitten, i.e. i can go days with no problems then have a full day of having to restart several times. i feel software isnt an issue. to back this up, it crashes using the following:
    opera browser.
    internet explorer.
    farmville.
    youtube.
    any random website.
    cs4 flash.
    cs4 photoshop.
    cs4 dreamweaver.
    cs3 portable flash.
    microsoft word.
    microsoft excel.
    microsoft powerpoint.
    microsoft access.
    windows media player.
    need for speed underground 2.
    8. dust isnt an issue given the machine is only 2 months old, components and connectors all been reseated.
    9. not really possible although i have 2 ram chips i removed one and still had the issue then i removed the remaining chip and put in the chip i took out previously same issue!

    next?

just decided to do some other tests seen as i havent had any replies since the first one. i did the driver verifier as per instructions on this forum and the results....

when i booted the first time i got the mouse cursor appearing then it went to a black screen and stayed there for ages.

second time i got the cursor again then it went to a black screen then a BSOD with this information:

    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

    STOP: 0x0000000A (0x0000003c0000008B, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff80002e8f4d8)

third time i restarted the computer i got the mouse cursor then after a while it froze up as it does when my computer normally crashes.

and finally the fourth time i got into windows very slow (due to verifier running no doubt) then i turned it off.

hopefully this information is helpful and i get a reply this time. attached dump file from today, unfortunately just found out its empty for some reason :S
