    Random restarts

    Hi,

Had a couple of random restarts over the last week. Starting to worry me.

    NB: I don't play games.

    1) First was a complete restart - no BSOD or anything. No log file. Just browsing at the time.
    2) The second was last night when I left the computer shutting down and doing some updates. Came back thsi morning to find that during the update something had happened and the computer was back on but reporting an irregular shutdown. Minidump posted.

    Many thanks for help.

I've slipped off the front page ... do I need to provide further info? A few people have viewed this. No comments?

    Thanks as ever.

It looks like dot4.sys is causing the problem, which is a system file.

I suggest running a system files scan. Open an elevated command prompt and enter sfc /scannow.

many thanks for this JK. Hope someone is paying you somewhere.

Running that now. Is this file printer related in some way? (I use an HP officejet pro 8500.)

Actually, I believe that file is printer-related.

You may want to try uninstalling the software too.

WRP did not find any intergrity violations...

Ok. Might reinstall printer software - shame, I'd been defending HP of late as this software that came with this printer actually works!

Thanks again. May return if I have further fb.
