    Windows Boots, Locks Up

Essentially, I can boot up my system. It takes slightly longer than usual. I get to the desktop and all appears to be well. When I click on any program on the taskbar in an attempt to run it, everything locks up.

I also cannot shut down. I have to resort to hitting and holding the power button each time.

Everything runs fine in safe mode(everything I can use that is) and I've been operating out of that for a few days.

I've scanned with Malwarebytes and Avast, both of which came back clean. I have also run CCleaner.

HJT log and startuplist attached, as well as the windows bootlog.

I've backed up all of my media and documents on my external drives. I would just do a clean install of Windows 7, but I never received the hard copy I requested in the mail. I'm actively seeking a copy and hope to find one in the next few days.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As everything is ok in Safe Mode - you could try the clean boot procedure to see what may be causing the issue:

It's about games - but the same procedure can help narrow down the cause of the issue.

    Thank you

I took your advice and followed the safe boot routine, and basically guess and checked until I found out what the problem was.

It turned out to be Avast antivirus, which I've never had a single issue with before. So I uninstalled it, downloaded the latest version, and I'm up and running as well as ever.

    Thank you very much.
