    Unable to start Task Scheduler

When I do a Windows Update, it fails to install the Office Genuine Advantage Notifications with a Code 80070643.

I looked around for a solution and found that this can happen if the Task Scheduler is disabled. Sure enough, my Task Scheduler is disabled.

When I try to use Services.msc to change it to MANUAL or AUTOMATIC, all the selections are grayed out.

Using the TUT program, I get an error that it is unable to do so.

When I go to run Task Scheduler from CONTROL PANEL | ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS, it first pops up a box that says "The remote computer was not found.". Click OK to bring up the Task Scheduler where most items grayed out and at the bottom under Task Status it says "Reading Data Failed".

I cannot figure out how to get this enabled.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    The Solution

Here is the solution I found from another post.

    HKLM >System>CurrentcontrolSet>Services>Schedule

Change the START value to 3.

    Reboot computer.

Now I am able to start the service and the Windows Update went without any problems.

    :)
