    Repeated crashes for 2 months

    Hi everyone,

My computer has been crashing several times a day for almost 2 months now, and I'm at my wits' end.

I've tried absolutely everything I can think of, and followed advice from this and countless other forums, but unfortunately I'm not very good at this 'under the hood' stuff when it comes to computers and I just really can't figure out what's causing this.

So here I am - I've never posted here before, but I'm hoping that someone will read this post and be able to help me out in some way!

When I restart the computer, a box appears, stating: 'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown'. The box contains these details:

    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
    Locale ID: 2057

    Additional information about the problem:
    BCCode: 9f
    BCP1: 0000000000000003
    BCP2: FFFFFA800467B060
    BCP3: FFFFF80000B9C4D8
    BCP4: FFFFFA8004763620
    OS Version: 6_1_7600
    Service Pack: 0_0
    Product: 768_1

I tried to attach the dump file to this post, but it says I don't have permission - not sure how to get around this??

Anyway, any help much appreciated!! Thanks
    Heléna

Well first place to start is, is there any correllation to anything your doing? ANy specific program? Or when opening a specific folder?

Or does it seem to be utterly random?

If the latter, the normal thing to do is remove half the ram to see if it goes away, if not swap sticks and try again. Bad ram is a frequent cause of totally random crashes.

Is that a laptop? If so the running memtest86 for several hours may have to be done instead...

Thanks very much for the tips. I've attached a zip file containing the minidumps from the past week.

The crashes aren't random - they happen only when the laptop's been idle for a couple of hours or so. Given that I'm therefore not around when the crashes happen, I'm unable to correlate the crashes to anything in particular, which is very frustrating.

I uninstalled every piece of software and removed every file that I'd added at or since the time the crashes started happening, but it's made no difference. Hopefully the minidump files will shed some light on the situation...

    Thanks for your help :)

Oh well the lockup when idle issue is not unheard of. Unfortuantely I don,t have a quick answer, but it has come up several times before here, someone should be able to help. Or try searching "crash when idle". It may be related to a single driver going to sleep and crashing there or on resume.
