    I take it no backup?

Your options are limited. If it were me I would do a clean install, and yes that is a PITA, but, you system is so munged you are going to take weeks to fix where as an install would take you hours.

Let us know if you need help with it

    Ken

    With what? I don't think I have a re-install disc!

    This is unbelievible...

    Comet.

And yes, it HAD a 3 year warrently. However:

-I had to rip out the PCI slot covers at the back, because they obviously wern't meant to be taken off.

-I've upgraded the PSU + GPU, and knowing comet that'll viod the warranty as well.

-Oh, and another thing, after I brought it from them 2-3 months after. I got the windows is not genuine message. I thought about taking it in, but I knewexactly what they'd say: "You don't have a genuine copy of windows ..blah... your warranty is now void.

If you can get to resource monitor, keep it open on the desktop while trying to open a program. See if anything spikes.

    Edit:
Also go through the process list and selectively shut things down that are not critical. Then try to open a program. I found some malware running a few times by the process of elimination. If nothing else you will be freeing up memory anyways. Hpefully you can free up enough to make some things work.
