Acer Laptop freezes when lid is closed

Hello, I hope someone can help me. Brand new Acer Aspire with Windows 7. It worked okay for the first month and then started to make a noise when the lid is closed - thereby freezing. My power settings are set to Sleep upon closing the lid and Task bar is not on auto hide. I choose updates myself, so there is nothing unwanted. Any suggestions, any help? Thanks.

    Welcome to SF!

I suggest a system restore to get to a point before the troubles began.

Thanks for the suggestion - this laptop came with windows 7 so I do not have a disk per se as they suggest when doing a repair.

Open a command prompt and enter powercfg /a. Could you please post a screenshot?

then started to make a noise when the lid is closed
What is the nature of the noise. Could it come from the BIOS? Maybe something is defunct with the lid switch. PC Hell: BIOS Error Beep Codes

sorry, I dont know who to do a screenshot but this is what it says:
the following sleep states are available - standby hibernate hybrid sleep
the following sleep states are not available on this system: standby (s1) standby (s2)

The noise level is similar to when one inserts a cd/dvd in the drive - no peeps, just a low grade grrr grrr!!

    Thanks, guys!

Go into your BIOS and see if any sleep settings are disabled.

It reminds me of a thread a week ago, Sleep mode not working. See if that helps you any.
