Windows 7: seagate external HD is not getting open but detected

Hi,
I using XP os with seagate external hardisc 150GB.. when i plugging in the port the External harddisc dets is getting detected very late. I does Autoplay without running any files. When I right click or try to open or when i try to see the properties with Alt+Enter
the system is getting into not responding condition. Is it because of Data execution prevention? even when i tried to scan the HDisc, AVG scans it but not showing any files or object scanned and returing '0' objects scanned. Please suggest to fix this issue.

Not caused by Data execution prevention. The drive may be corrupted, but not necessarily broken. You may have to run File Scavenger or Recuva to recover your files.
