Windows 7: BSOD - BugCheck 116 - Radeon 5850 & 4550

Hi All,

Been looking through the Crashing sub-forum for info regarding a 116 error that induces a BSOD.

I started the PC this morning, for it to crash ~15 secs into Windows (after login). Tried it 3 times, got into Safe Mode in between attempts and no issues there.

As far as I'm aware, there were no updates (GPU or Windows) in the last few days that may have triggered this.

Any help you could provide would be great. If you need any further info, don't hesitate to ask!

It's definitely video driver related.

Update your ATI drivers if you haven't already to the latest. [I gather you have an ATI card of some sort?]

Sure is, I remember seeing ati****.sys show on the BSOD.
How do I update them when I can't load Windows? I couldn't remove CCC in Safe Mode?

Yeah, I have a Gigabyte HD 5850 (2 LCDs) & Gigabyte HD 4550 (running onto a 42" HDTV).

Temp on the 5850 is 52 celsius. I think the 4550 was up @ 60 celsius. (this in when I log onto the Vista install btw).

Seems to all be fixed for the moment.

I uninstalled the drivers from each device in Device Manager.
Restarted.
Uninstalled the Catalyst Control Centre.
Restarted.
Cleaned up drivers with Driver Cleaner Pro
Restarted.
Installed CCC 10.4
Restarted

No issues. *Fingers crossed* that is it!

That should be all you need to do. And the temperatures are within normal ranges. I would only worry about them if you hit the 73-78C mark.
