PC shut down unexpectedly

Hi again.

I'm still having problems with my PC, I'm afraid.

I was watching a BBC iPod programme just now, left the room, and when I returned the PC had shut down unexpectedly.

It attempted to re-boot several times but it did not start up successfully so I started up in safe mode, which is what I am in now.

When in safe mode I got the following message:

'Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

Windows can check online for a solution.'

Problem Event Name: Blue Screen.

OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3.2057
Locale ID: 2057

OS Version: 6_1_7608

Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:

C:\Windows\Minidump\050410-12183-01.dmp

C:\Users\Dick\AppData\Local\Temp/WER-24024-0:sysdata.xml.

I did a system restore to just before I upgraded my network adaptor, after which the PC re-booted as normal, but got the folowing message:

'System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore (0x000022).'

Just then the screen froze and the sound became distorted.

Any suggestions welcome.

Thank you.

Jonathan, there's a problem here.

I located the file in Windows Explorer but I can't open it.

Another problem is I had WinZip installed on my PC but due to the problems I was experiencing unistalled it and now I can't re-install it in safe mode so I can't compress the file.

Be sure to copy the file to the desktop before you try to open or compress it.

Then right-click on the file, and select send to compressed folder.

WinZip is unnecessary here.

Sorry, I made a mistake. You were correct; the directory is C:\Windows\Minidump.

It looks as if your nVidia video card drivers are causing the issue. I doubt you can find an update (the version you are using is dated March 16, 2010). I suggest installing an older version of the drivers.

That's a bit strange Jonathan because I updated my video card driver the other day because the one that came with the PC seemed to be causing problems too. Do you think old older driver would help?

I honestly have no idea what drivers will or will not work. I just suggest playing around with different drivers until you find one that works for you.

Ok, I downloaded the latest driver for my display card yesterday from www.nvidia.com. without any probelem and everything seemed to be working fine.

However, about 25 minutes ago I was in safe mode (as a precaution) and then tried to boot up in normal mode and in doing so got the BSOD. I then tried to start up a couple of times without success so I manually shut down then tried to reboot in safe mode again but got the following message:

"Input not support."

Then I tried to start in safe mode again, this time successfully.

I found the following in the event viewer:

16:50 'The winlogon notification subscriber <GPClient> was unavailable to handle a notification event.

16:54 'The power system shutdown at 16:54:55 was unexpected.'

16:55 'The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed or lost power unexpectedly.'

16:55 'The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000116 (etc.). A dump was saved in: C:\windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id:050610-15381-01.

16:55 'The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:

bdfwfpf

spldr

Any suggestions?

bdfsfltr and bdfwfpf are part of Bit Defender. It is certainly not the first time I have seen BD cause problems, including BSODs.

Uninstall it completely in Programs and Features. If you have to use Safe Mode, do so. Then run this removal tool: http://www.bitdefender.com/uninstall

Now is not the time to install any programs, but as soon as you feel the problem is over, download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

just wanted to ask, did this problem start 2 days ago? on the 4th or there abouts.. lm trying to track the bug lve been experiencing.

on the 4th my bitdefender had a program update, the first crash l wasnt exactly using my PC just came back to a blue screen, however the second one happened exactly when l was manually updating bitdefender, considering this was posted 2 days ago it seems to match the time my issues started.

No, I have had this problem for several weeks now. However, yesterday I uninstalled bitdefender and replaced it with Microsoft Security Essentials (which is a free download) and so far things seems ok, but it's very early days.

Just got the Blue Screen of Death again so can't be bitdefender.

I find if I go into safe mode for a bit then try to start up in normal mode it works but it's all very unsatisfactory. Somebody has suggested a low level format. Would this help?

A format may solve certain issues, like driver issues and a corrupted installation, but it won't help hardware problems.

Could you please upload the new dmp file?
