Stop c000021a

I have a Toshiba L355D-7901 I have gotten this BSOD error with every version of 7. I've tried a number of things I think the machines going to need some BIOS update or something. Anyone have any ideas?

Wow! Nice system!. Updating the BIOS would not be a bad idea. If you can boot up in safe mode, check the Event Log for other indicators of the error. Check this Blue Screen of Death Survival Guide: Every Error Explained - Page 1 | Maximum PC for help of BSOD's.

Where you upgrading or clean install? Where you installing the 64 bit version? It sounds like either a BIOS compatibility issue or a 64 bit driver issue. You could try installing the 32 bit version of Windows 7 RC when it is available or get it from torrent.

Thanks got it at Best Buy for $599 upgraded the RAM for 20 bucks. I'm trying to get the x64 to work and I did try a few x86 builds with the same results. I also updated the BIOS to the latest available from Toshiba but no go. I would think a driver issue also but it will do it on a fresh install with no updates or drivers, it also does it with the drivers. BTW Toshiba has x64 drives available for this laptop you would think they would work.

I have the same system, only had it about 5 weeks but I was able to install Windows 7 RC x86 with no problem. I did have BSOD issues when I tried to install the x64 version. Right now I am re-downloading x64 and am going to try burning at a slower speed. I have a hdd that I have Vista x64 Ultimate installed on with no issues so my Win7 x64 install was either a bad burn, bad download or the Windows 7 x64 RC is flawed. I will post my results in a while.

This is a nasty error that can be caused by many different things.
I don't think that I've encountered one in Windows 7 yet either.

As the description states, it's one of the few cases where the failure of a user-mode process can cause a BSOD. Determining which process is the difficult part tho'.

Most fixes that I've seen in Vista revolved around:
- malware
- Windows Updates
- registry corruption

Windows7 compatibility is a tricky issue, and the lower the functioning of the drivers is, the less likely it is that they will be compatible. In the past the Toshiba BIOS has given me fits, not wanting to work with bootable media and tests that work on the majority of other systems (so it could be a BIOS incompatibility).

If you're able to get into Safe Mode, please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the files located there and upload them with your next post. If there aren't any there (or you have problems with them), let us know.

Also in Safe Mode, try the Startup Repair tool (the Repair your computer option). Then, in Safe Mode, try the Vista big 4 troubleshooting tools (not all will work in Safe Mode). Go to start and type one of the following and press Enter:

perfmon /report
reliability monitor
wercon
event viewer

Look for errors in each of the reports. In Event Viewer, look under the Windows Logs for the System log files and look for errors around or shortly before the BSOD occurred.

The first few times I tried installing Windows 7 x64 RC, I was able to get it installed but on the first reboot I would get a BSOD. I didn't bother writing down the error codes, just kept trying. Finally gave up on x64 and was able to install x86 with no problems what so ever. I then swapped hdds and was able to install Vista Ultimate x64 also with no problems what so ever. I have that hdd in now. My last 3 attempts after re-downloading and re-burning ended with the same results of the OP.

I had no problems with Vista x64 either its just x64 7. I thought it had something to do with driver signing but I tried the laptop in test mode and got the same results.

Apparently this has not been fixed ion the Windows 7 x64 RTM. I downloaded and installed it last night, got through the install with no problem but after the Windows update and reboot, BSOD and error message appeared. The x86 RTM works fine just like the x86 RC did.

Have you seen this How to troubleshoot a "STOP 0xC000021A" error

I have a similar model toshiba laptop and I have had the same issues for months, with EVERY build it windows 7, usually putting in a vista disc and formatting the HD would fix it, but with the final RTM that doesn't even work.

I can put the dvd in and it will load drivers and get to the point were it has the windows 7 logo with the flying colored logo, then it stops and blue screens, I can't even get a chance to partition the hard drive or anything.

I updated my bios today thinking that would help but it didn't. Looks like im stuck with vista or have to get a 32 bit OS.

This is just stupid microsoft hasn't realized this problem and let an OS go out the door in this condition.
