    Sidebar Problem

    Good Day Everyone!

    Problems I encountered of my sidebar:

    :: wont start with gadgets on startup
    - I have tried placing a shortcut of sidebar.exe to the startup folder but still don't work, it just start sidebar.exe but without the gadgets i placed before i reboot.

    :: gadget setting wont apply
    - I try to change the setting of the Weather gadget, but it won't apply. I also try to change settings of another gadget, but still won't work.

    I tried to disable UAC and go to regedit and to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Sidebar\Settings but there was no Settings folder, that, i cannot create A New DWORD(32 Bit Value) with name “AllowElevatedProcess” and set value as “1”.

    I also tried to run "Run" ans administrator, and typed these commands: Regsvr32 atl.dll, Regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\sbdrop.dll", and Regsvr32 "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\wlsrvc.dll", but still does nothing.

    My laptop is a Toshiba M500 and have a Norton Internet Security, the problem was there since i bought it.

    Hoping you can help me solve this problem.

    Regards,

    Since sidebar launches have you tried reinstalling the gadgets? It may be the individual gadget and not sidebar.

    check that sidebar is set to run when windows starts for one, if you exit out of sidebar while its running it should prompt you or you can enter services and check there.

    are you using weatherbug or the windows weather gadget? if so just enter your zip code, hit the search tool and then exit out. it should apply the settings. (sorry if this is redundant you didn't say which steps you had taken specifically except to say you tried to apply settings).

    as for all cpu meter not working, your guess is as good as mine. while it comes recommended on many websites I've visited it also has a developer warning when you are prompted to install it, and so I have ceased use of the gadget. you should always asure that your gadgets come from a trusted developer.

    i have to say so with a disclaimer of any defects you experience in doing so, but buildagadget.com doesn't present the same warning as the windows gadget website. it also names the publisher which windows gadgets website hasn't in the past and this may be the reason for the prompt.

    the sidebar wont start during the startup of my computer, i have no idea on how will i put it in startup, i only tried pasting a shortcut on the startup folder in program files. but wont take effect, the gadgets i placed before i restarted my computer is not in the sidebar anymore.

    sorry i didn't specify the gadget, the gadget i mean is the windows weather gadget, i tried to search my location, it gave me results, but when i applied the settings, the settings i specified didn't apply. it still the same as before i set the settings. not only the microsoft weather bug, but also the clock, i mean the default gadget clock, when i try to change its looks, then applied, the default look still applies. its like the sidebar and gadgets are in Deep Freeze, it wont save any new settings, it goes back on its own.
