    Mirrored disk crash

I've protected my system with mirrored disk's
    one disk has crashed ....
So what is the procedure to recover now ??

    Non system DISK.
    Mirrored copy is working ok

DO I just replace the disk
How to be sure to get the correct one ???

Tools to look at the problem ????
    References ?

Just need some specs on your hardware. Like controller, etc

i freed one disk to be set in the mirror (not done yet)

    config Soft win 7
mirroring = da disk Mirror port 4 and port 5 port 5 is defective
Motherboard ASUS P6T V2 delux (motherboard mirroring/set in bios )
    Intel manager indicatdes disk fault
disk 4 still in raid mirror disk 5 is taken out (system gets unstable )

would want to replace Disk 5 with new disk (fresh fully formated).
DO I need a backup First
All disks are exactly the same disks Samsung 1Terra disks

HOw do I get disk 4 to mirror copy on the new formatted disks
how can I be sure it does not copy the formated disk to my good disk

    Thanks in advance

RAID arrays are (supposedly) self-healing when you replace the defective hardware.
BUT - always do a backup. You never know when it's gonna lose your stuff!
Then just replace the disk. If it doesn't fix it automatically, you may have to coax it to work in the RAID BIOS settings.

How many disks in your RAID array (I'm seeing at least 5 in your post)
How is the RAID array setup (RAID 0, RAID 5, etc)?

oh no I kept it simpple
disk 0 = system Disk no mirroring
disk 2- disk 3 independent disks 1 to be recovered now
content disk 3 moved to disk 2 Disk 3 is reformatting now

disk 4 -5 in mirrored raid only 2 disks in mirroring so is raid 0
disk 5 defective and removed now
disk 2 will should play the role of disk 5 for next

    disk0 win 7
    disk1 data
    disk 2 data
    disk 3 reformatting
disk 4 part of mirror hopefully intext
disk 5 ready for the bin to be replaced with disk 3

all disks equal in size samsung 1Terra
MB ASUS P6T V2 Deluxe Mirroring by the bios

it would be difficult to do a backup restore
i would prefere to place disk 3 as new mirror copy en force a copy as such

I do not want to lose data but 1 Terra is big
Making the backup takes a full day I do not have the spare disk capacity

DO I need to do something special with the formatted disk.
As I was creating the mirror I had to start from the backup no mirror recover was possible

documentation states nothing on how to recover.
it is clearly Raid 1 pure mirroring

I do not want to lose my data
is it possible DMA - tmo options are different per drive ??
    same size but ...

If you can't afford the time/space to backup - then you're just going to have to chance it.

    FWIW - I have a P6T mobo with a HighPoint RAID card.
My system is set in RAID 5
I had a drive fail on me - I replaced it and all was well.

Also, the instructions for my NAS device (Link DNS-323 in RAID 1) say that I'll just have to replace the drive if one breaks.

Although I'm not a RAID expert, I believe that the point of mirroring is to allow you to replace the bad drive and save your data with minimal fuss and bother. But it's your data - so it's your choice on what to do.

    Good luck!
