Computer shutting itself down after 15 minutes

Every time I am away from my PC using my netbook to remotely control it, it automaticly shuts down even if there is not power saving options or scedules making it shut down. I am getting fed up of it shutting down as it has a very slow bootup, it shows the splashscreen for like 55 seconds then it logs on quite quick.

    1. does the system actually completely shut down or does it go into sleep mode?
    2. the duration of the splash screen is a function of all the devices that the BIOS is checking. The more devices you have attached, the slower it will be. But some BIOS programs seem to be slow by design.

The same for Sleep - that was the reason I was asking the previous question #1.
