Startup Repair loop and Corrupt Registry

    Hi Guys.

    Hoping you guys can help.

We have a computer running windows 7 and yesterday it developed a problem where it will keep going to startup repair when it starts up. It will then say there was a problem with startup repair and it will give something along these lines as the error:
Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline Problem Signature 01: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 02: 6.1.7600.16385
    Problem Signature 03: unknown
    Problem Signature 04: 21201049
    Problem Signature 05: AutoFailover
    Problem Signature 06: 7
    Problem Signature 07: CorruptRegistry
    OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033

I tried Last Known Good Configuration, but it just loads up Startup Repair, I tried system restore, but still loads up startup repair.

I can't do a repair install as I can't access windows and it will not let me do it from the DVD.

Safe mode will also keep going to startup repair too.

I don't know what else to try other that start a fresh which I wanted to avoid really.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to 7Forums...

Can't you access at all at the SFC/SCANNOW figure in Windows?

You might try aswell some options here:
    Advanced Boot Options

This thread might give you some clue:

    Repair Install

Since you can't get into Win7, you need to boot the Win7 DVD Repair console, accept any offered repair to see if it will start.

If not, boot back into Repair console, click through to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair. It automates dozens of tests and may offer to run System Restore.

If WIn7 doesn't start at reboot, boot back in to choose System Restore from the list and work your way back through the chronological restore points until you get before the fail point and Win7 starts.

Yeah, I tried the startup repair from the dvd it said it couldn't do anything and presented the error that I had mentioned in my first post. The only option i get in the recovery options is startup repair (so no system restore option etc). I have managed to get all the recovery options when booting from CD but when choosing system restore it tells me that an operating system is not selected and that i need to boot to the os first.

I managed to get to the command line in the repair options from the CD, I tried running sfc /scannow but it said a startup repair was pending and that I need to do that first.

    Any ideas?

Easy way: If you have a backup of your Registry, restore the backup...
Hard way: Extract all data you need off that disk, do a clean reinstall, complete with reformat.

I suggest you to keep on trying running the Sfc/Scannow and force the console to pass by the Startup Repair...something had to be cleared, so it does remind it's pending a repair.

When you boot into the Repair Console, it should look like and present all of the options shown in the screenshots in Repair CD - System Repair Disk, otherwise you are not booting into the Repair console.

Keep trying to run Startup Repair and report back its exact results.

What is the exact error message when you try to run System Restore from the Repair console Recovery Tools list?

Hi. I tried running startup repair soooo many times, and I tried running sfc /scannow so many times too. Nothing could get me past that error or let me get into windows, even in safe mode. I have now given in and i've reinstalled windows 7 and copied all my data over.

    Thanks anyway for the help.

I'm another with the same problem.

The problem appears to have started with the last windows auto update.

The computer worked fine for three months.
