    Blue Screen after start up

I upgraded Vista to the Windows 7 RC last night and it seemed to go well, but when I start the computer now, I get a brief flash of the normal desktop, but then it goes to the blue screen and reboots.

I CAN start it up with no problem in Safe Mode, but I'm somewhat of a neophyte. How do I find out what program is causing the crash from there?

You can copy down the information from the BSOD for starters: How To Find Bsod Error Messages

And, you can zip up the contents of the C:\Windows\Minidump folder (it may be hidden) and upload it to your next post. That may give us some clues about the error.

Since it happens in normal mode, and not in Safe Mode - then it's likely to be a driver that loads in Safe Mode and not in normal mode. Then it's a matter of ruling them out one-by-one.

Usasma, you can just read the code on the BSoD too.

rrlane, do you know the code? Just start the computer normally and write down the code and post it here.
If you really want to get into it, boot into safe mode. From there, search or MSconfig. Hit enter and continue at UAC prompt. Then, select Diagnostic Startup, and reboot. This will boot your computer normally, but in safe mode style. If that works, you can manually enable drivers one by one until it works safely.

    Hi Lordbob75!

Thanks for the info. The link that I provided contains an annotated copy of a BSOD with the items needed. It also contains instructions on how to locate the BSOD errors in the Event Viewer, or for locating the memory dump files on the hard drive.

That works too usasma. I may have to read it myself when I get more time.

    Off to school!
