Come to think about it, I remember buying the PSU at Best Buy. But why the hell would it be in a Ultra box? I still have the box to prove it...

And I think its my HDTV because its a Vizio with 1680x1050 resolution connected through HDMItoDVI. I just recently started using this TV about a month ago, so this could of been the exact reason why.

I am using my HDTV now but like i said, at 1680x1050 resolution through VGA. This shouldn't hurt anything. Its either the HDTV, Card, or the cord is faulty. Because the cord has been giving me random issues too. Such as acting as if it isnt connected but it is.

In short, I am going to buy a few new parts for this PC. I just dont know what exactly I can upgrade on it due to it being a damn gateway and not knowing what the motherboard can all support. They never release those damn specs when buying. Isn't there a program that finds out what my MB can support and show me parts i can buy?

Again, it's not your TV, nor is it the fact that you're using an hdmi-dvi connector. Don't think you've got a whole list of items which need replacing. :) That's good news.

The most rational explanation for all your troubles (video card, bsod's, dvi-hdmi shorts) is that you've been using a junk PSU. Compounding the issue is that you've been taxing the video card under the impression it was meant for gaming when in fact, it was really meant for playing DVD's, which is far less stressful than a few rounds of GTA.

Bad PSU's can, and do, damage hardware. Sometimes it's quick; sometimes it happens over a longer period of time. Nevertheless, a PSU that's not delivering clean stable power will have an effect, and it's always negative.

I know of no such program; however, that does not mean one doesn't exist. The important item, the PSU, will support your board, as long as you get a decent one. Likewise, if you get a decent gaming card (and I think we've discussed this?), you should be good to go. Just link the items you're considering and I/we will let you know how they rate.
