Well it didn't fix my problem. Now it restarts but it doesn't boot up into ubuntu, it stays on but it doesn't load up anything until I move the mouse. And now I can't even make a minidump because it says "access denied". And there is a padlock on the folder. The only way I could make one is if I copied the files and pasted them to my desktop and added them to the zip. And the first 3 DMP files are gone and there are 2 different ones, I assume this is suppose to happen.

Anyways, I attached a new Minidump to this and the first post. Its Minidump2.

Just to recap. I did use Driver sweeper to clean the ATI drivers out in safe mode with networking (i was in safe mode when i posted) and then restarted and reinstalled Catalyst 10.5. My screen still goes black when playing certain games on this Vizio TV. I assume its just my graphics card can't handle certain programs or games in my resolution which is in my system specs.

I just had my computer running since I last posted and it hasn't shut down yet. According to the forums it was 3 hours ago but it feels longer. Idk why it shuts down from 12am-12pm but it is kinda confusing. It can't be a auto shutdown because when starting it says it wasn't shut down correctly.

Could someone take a look at the dump please?

I just noticed that we're dealing with a Gateway... they've been so quiet I thought they went under?

Is the machine still under warranty? Do they still have Gateway Stores/Outposts you can bring the machine to? Is one close enough by you? Finally, and most importantly, are they still into the cow motif?

Honestly, as much of a hassle as it may be, I'd let Gateway deal with it.

It never started doing this until a week ago. Im pretty sure it isn't gateway's fault. Its been working perfect since ive bought it until a week ago. I am almost sure i can format my HD and everything will be fixed, but if it isnt that then its a hardware issue. In that case ill just have to replace that hardware.

But it only happens when its idle sadly. Doesn't happen any other time.

Oh and I bought it at best buy a few years ago. So there is no warrenty anymore. And geek squad loves to rip people off by having the customer pay like $200 for a issue that a person can fix themselves. And id rather buy a new computer than having this one fixed lol. I have 4 of them anyways

It's always Gateways fault... c'mon now!

To review: all your troubles began ~ a week ago after you updated your Catalyst drivers and changed your power mode to balanced. You've uninstalled your ATI drivers, booted into safe mode and run driver sweeper cleaning all traces of ATI, and installed the latest 10.5 drivers, yet are still bsod'ing, but only when idle and not while gaming. Is that accurate?

    **edit**

I seriously doubt an OS re-install is going to help here; I fear you'd end up in the same place you started. Have you tried switching your power plan back to high performance and then manually adjusting what you want to cycle down? Does your board support/are you running AMD's Cool n Quiet?

Are dump files basically BSOD logs?

Anyways, It crashed one time and that was when I posted about it and it hasn't done that since. Idk if was because I had downloads running, or dreamscene that kept it from doing it, but I am about to go to bed and Give it one night without it doing anything. I have auto scans run at around 6am. Maybe its my memory and my scans take too much of it at that time? I can't see why. I have 4gb and its only Avast and Spybot full scans.

But if it doesnt crash again, then chances are that problem is fixed and that last BSOD was something different. Nobody checked the latest dump files so I don't know.

After tonight, and all goes well which I think it will. Ill be back tomorrow asking for help on that black screen. It happens with nearly every game, as well as few programs. Not sure why. It only does it with this Vizio TV. On other forums they told me that maybe my graphics card wasn't supporting the resolution or something. But ive done resolution tests and all failed. But then they said it could of been voltages. Idk if there are logs that show why it blacks out or not.

BTW if I havent said it yet, Thank you very much for helping guys

You're not going to like it, but you could try down-clocking the card to see if that's where your troubles lie?

In the CCC go to ATI Overdrive and click on the lock. Check enable ATI Overdrive and then down clock your card a bit... ~ 20MHz on both the core and the memory. Hit apply and run a benchmark, or a game, to see if you bsod.

I dont BSOD while playing the games, its just a random black screen that lasts 3-5 seconds. But how do I run a benchmark?
