My slightly unusual crashing

Hey everyone,

I've been using windows 7 home premium (64 bit) for a few months now. I upgraded without wiping my data from windows vista. Everything was perfectly fine up until recently. My windows has started to crash. The started when my laptop (a Sony Vaio) was left idle and I would come back to find everything was frozen. This problem started to become more and more frequent, and would start happening while I was using the computer as well. Now, after startup, my computer crashes after about 3-5 minutes of use everytime. Everything becomes completely frozen and I need to hold down the power button. A few times I have gotten the infamous 'blue screen of death' and other times I just get errors saying 'Windows explorer is not responding'.

The only thing I can think of that I changed was installing a driver to a printer (Lexmark X5450). It was around this time, or close to around this time when I started to have issues (I think). The driver was installed also before I upgraded to 7 from Vista (the vista version of this driver was on there before the upgrade, but the 7 driver needed to be installed to make it work).

The reason I call this an 'unusual' crash is because the problem got worse over time to the point where I can barely use my PC anymore. Also, that the crash doesn't always give me the blue screen and doesn't always tell me that windows explorer is not responding.

Any ideas?

ps: I'm not the most technical savvy person in the world.

It does eventually blue screen, but the computer restarts itself so fast once it pops up, I don't have time to read it.

Even if your computer doesnt always create a DMP file when BSOD'ing the ones that are created are stored. use these instructions to find and upload them to us.We need the actual dmp file created when your computer crashed. Alsofor the freezes that dont create DMP's there will still be critical errors in event viewer. to find them type eventvwr in search>go to the windows logs>application tab. Look for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that say app freeze, app hang, or anything relating to your problem.

When you f ind them note the event ID and source codes and tell us what they are.

ok first lets disable auto reset so you can read bsods. Click start, right click on computer, click properties, on the left side of the window that opens click advanced system settings, bottom of window is "Startup and Recovery" click setting and under system failure unclick automatically restart. You may have to restart afterwards.

Ok next please go to c:\windows\minidump zip the 4 most recent files and attach them to your reply.

Also we need more info for example is there a common software when the computer locks up? What is your core temp what are your system temps?

ok click on the arrow next to the paper clip. then click choose file then find the zip file on your comp. Then click upload. if you are trying to upload the .dmp files it wont work. You can only upload certain file types

Yeah, thanks. Was just having issues getting them on here before the computer crashed. They should be up now.

Both dumps where caused by "csrss.exe" This program controls much of the graphical interface in windows. To fix it run elevated command prompt. In the search window type cmd.exe then right click and run as administrator. Then type sfc /scannow. Make sure there is a space between sfc and the /.

Please post the results of the scan.
