BSOD windows 7 64 bit

    I've found several identical problems on the G. Skill site, answer for most is RMA the RAM.



    Let's try a couple of things first.
    You have been installing the RAM in slots 1 & 3, or called A2 and B2, these are the blue slots, if this is correct try both 2GB RAM sticks in slots 2 & 4, or A1 and B1, the white slots.
    See if it will boot and if there are any errors.

    From your MOBO manual (< click to download your MOBO manual):
    Attachment 86035

    Page 44 of your MOBO manual shows you where to check the DRAM voltage. Tell us what the voltage is.
    It's under the "OC Tweaker Screen" scroll down it should be at the bottom.

    Page 51 of your MOBO manual shows you where to find the AHCI/IDE setting, look what it says and report back, DO NOT change the setting as it will BSoD and will not boot. There is a way to change it, but we'll get into that later if needed.

    Read through your MOBO manual and look at the G. Skill forum to see similar issues.

    as for the ram they were both in slot a1 and b1 which are the white slots and i believe the correct ones.


    the dram voltage is set to auto at the moment. however there are several settings with the minimum 1.30v and the max 2,05v

    i also found where the ahci settings is i think.

    any next step ?

    If you previously had the RAM in A1 & B1 the white slots, then try them in the blue slots, just to confirm if you still get a BSoD.
    There are a couple more things to check and try, but I'll get back to this thread tomorrow.

    There should be something showing the current DRAM Voltage, even when in Auto, look for this and tell us what it is.

    Is the BIOS settings in IDE or AHCI?
    Default is IDE.

    The P/N for the RAM you have isn't on the Asrock H55M Pro Memory list.
    The RAM may work on your MOBO, but may be an issue we'll have to come back to.

    its in default so IDE

    and i consulted the installation manual and it says use white slot B1 as first priorty and install both sets of ram in the same colour socket but i will try them in the blue anyway

    Yes try them in the blue slots, to check for stability, this will likely be in single channel mode, but might point us to a MOBO issue or rule one out.

    Did you run the test with one stick of ram on each test and run for six passes?

    If you haven't run memtest86 with both RAM sticks installed in A1 & B1, the white sockets, then run the test, 6 full passes.

    Tell us if you get any errors.

    You can never assume that everyone 'knows what they are doing'.
    OEMs quite frequently make errors, and so does everyone else.

    You should ask the computer shop to test the RAM and MOBO, or lend you similar RAM so you can test it. This should narrow down the possible hardware issue between the RAM and MOBO.

    If you got a blue screen on your first boot (from first post) this likely indicates a hardware problem. RAM or MOBO, testing with other compatible RAM (check MOBO compatible RAM list) will help point to which one is causing the blue screen.

    Other things we can try:

    1.) Type 'msconfig' in your start menu 'search programs and files' box, press enter.
    Click boot tab, then 'Advanced Options' button.
    On the top right, 'Maximum memory' box should NOT be ticked, if it is then de-select it.
    Test for BSoD.

    2.) If your MOBO has onboard graphics, take out the graphics card and see if you still get the blue screen. If no blue screen with 2GB then try 4GB.

    3.) Go to BIOS, as per your MOBO manual, and manually set the DRAM voltage to 1.50v. Try first with one RAM stick, if OK try both RAM sticks.
    If your still getting blue screens, bump the voltage to 1.55v, do not exceed 1.60v, to be safe.

    Please report back on exactly which steps you have tried and the results, be specific and detailed.

    ok iv done 2 steps

    Run mem test with 2 sticks of ram: i only did 1 pass as it took over 1 hour and it was pretty clear there was a problem as in that 1 pass i got 2,220,638 errors. this was with 4gb of ram in slots a1 and b1 the yellow ones.

    i also changed the bois settings to one the pc shop put in place as profile 1 on my bios, these settings didnt previously work but i noticed the volatge was set to auto in it so i change it to 1.5v as you stated and no BSOD this time but i will keep loading to see if anything changed. with these settings and 4gb of ram in i did the winsat mem test and here are the results.


    if a BSOD occurs again i will try the other steps you suggested and report back

    The winsat mem test is where it should be, that's a good sign.

    Run memtest86 again, if the manual voltage setting to 1.5v makes it more stable you should get less or no errors.

    If there are no errors, run it to check for blue screen.

    If there is an indication that it is running better, ie more time between BSoDs or less errors then increase the DRAM voltage to 1.55v.

    These are the chipset drivers mentioned previously,INF driver ver:9.1.1.1020.
    If your still having BSoD, install the chipset drivers, if you haven't already.

    have ran my pc with 1.5v 1.55v with and without the settings provided by the shop in the bios and i still get a BSOD. instrestingly when i change the settings the BSOD does not appear so if i keep changing the voltage every time i load my pc the BSOD does not appear.
