    BSOD, seems random

I'm having a problem with my new IBM Thinkpad Edge, which I'm running Windows 7 on (it came with the computer.) I don't game or do much that would really tax my system, but randomly Windows crashes at least once a day now. The minidump from the latest one is attached and the number shown on the blue screen was just a bunch of zeroes and then 7.Attachment 82094 Any help would be much appreciated even if it's just "the best idea would be to send it back to IBM." Thank you so much!

STOP 0x0000007F: UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (go to Usual causes: Memory corruption, Hardware (memory in particular), Installing a faulty or mismatched hardware (especially memory) or a failure after installing it, 3rd party firewall, Device drivers, SCSI/network/BIOS updates needed, Improperly seated cards, Incompatible storage devices, Overclocking, Virus scanner, Backup tool, Bad motherboard, Missing Service Pack

Since it is new and problem can be hardware, Bios, or cards or even MB. I would suggest sending it back. You do not want to void the warranty. Some warranties stiuplate that ANY changes will void the warranty.

If you want to work on it, I would be very agreeable.

Well, I'm using ZoneAlarm Free firewall and AVG free for antivirus. Would it be best to try alternatives to those first? If so, which ones?
If there are hardware problems... well, I haven't done any fiddling with the guts, so the warranty should cover that. Is there a particular place you would suggest for finding drivers? Obviously Lenovo has some on their website, but should I rely on those or go to the individual parts' makers for up to date drivers?

Remove Zone Alarm, that is a common cause of BSOD, Use Microsoft Security Essentials for your Antivirus.
    http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

For firewall Comodo is a good choice
    http://www.comodo.com/home/download/...?prod=firewall

I will get you a list of oudated drivers, but there should not be any with a new computer.

    UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck params is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
    If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
            use .trap on that value
    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
    Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.

I am leaning toward the Zone Alarm. If that does not work, I will get you the information to replace these drivers.

I agree with Richard. I suspect ZA, AVG, or the combination of both of them may be the issue.

Please remove both with these tools:

    http://download.avg.com/filedir/util...removerx64.exe

    http://download.zonealarm.com/bin/fr...cpes_clean.exe

Replace with Microsoft Security Essentials: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

Just to inform you, ANY two full antivirus products (not just scans, mind you) will cause some damage. Remove both of those and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials as was suggested.

Thank you for all the helpful replies, I was gone, but now I'll get rid of the programs and see if that doesn't help. Either way, I'll post again to let you know how it's going.

    argh.

I went two days without a crash and I was really hoping that fixed it. But apparently not. I think this is the new minidump, but I'm not certain, the number seems similar. If not, I apologize, but I saw several errors, including 07. Also, I think I may have found a pattern in the crashes. The last few, at least, I've been using Youtube when it crashed. Any other fixes that don't involve cracking the top?
