Windows 7: BSOD every 2-3 days.

Windows 7

BSOD every 2-3 days.

Hi everyone. I have a HP pavilion dv9000 laptop. Worked fine for 3 years, but here recently those crashes started.

I did change one of the hard drives not so long ago and started getting BSOD some time after that but I'm not sure it is related.

Also I started using a new USB modem around the same time - ONDA MT503HS.

It crashes for no apparent reason - sometimes during ICQ loading, sometimes when I start using VUZE, sometimes just feels overheated just before the crash. I got the ventilation pad for it and crushes stopped for 10 days or more but then started again. During those 10 days I wasn't doing anything different or installed/uninstalled anything new. Now that I think of it - it seems that it BSODed only when I'm online, but I'm not sure 100%.

Here is what one of the dump files say (they seem to say all the same) and I attach the whole directory with those.

I hope someone will be able to help me...

Thank you all in advance,
Nina

Hi, I was wondering if there were ever any results with my post from your checking... I'm sorry to bother you with that but my computer keeps crashing and it couldn't be good for it (apart from the fact that I'm constantly loozing some of my work due to it). Maybe it will help just to analize 2 or 3 not all 16, I'm sure they are all the same. It crashes 99% of the time when online using this onda modem while running Vuze. Please help me out here! You are my last hope...

Much thanks again,

Nina

Your ONDA USB NDIS Miniport Driver is blamed in most of the crashes. Dated 2008, it should be updated:
Code:
ONDAusbnet.sys Sun Mar 09 23:49:54 2008
Third-party anti-virus programs are famous for causing problems in Windows 7 and Vista. I see you are using Norton 2009, which causes many crashes in Windows 7 in particular.

Because of the network-related problems, I would also remove Norton. Here is the removal tool: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/englis...moval_Tool.exe

Install Microsoft Security Essentials instead, and use the built-in Windows Firewall. I suspect you will be happier with your computer's performance when you're done, in addition.

Your Intel storage drivers are outdated as well, not a good thing at all. I would look on the computer manufacturer's site for an update.
Code:
iaStor.sys Thu Jul 12 18:59:22 2007 (4696B24A)
Remove or update Acronis:
Code:
tifsfilt.sys Wed Aug 29 08:37:17 2007 (46D5687D)
timntr.sys Wed Aug 29 08:13:12 2007 (46D562D8)
There are more outdated drivers, but let's wait on these results before going on.

Thank you very much for your great help!
Unfortunately I still have some questions:
1. I can't find any newer drivers for ONDA. (Could be that I don't know where to look, but I went to their site and I have the latest ones...). Does it mean that I need to get a new modem that has newer drivers available?

2. I can't find Acronis on my system...

3. I originally had Windows Vista on my laptop and then update to Windows 7, so when I go to HP web site for latest drivers - they don't show any for my laptop for Windows 7. I found the update for Vista though and installed it but could it be a problem since I don't run Vista anymore?

Thank you again, I am installing Microsoft Security Essentials now instead of my Norton which in fact was Symantech Endpoint Protection 11, which I loved and it didn't slow down my PC, but I'm gonna give MSE a try

Well, after 5 hours of searching and some soft tweaking I finally managed to make my modem work with windows 7 drivers and different communication soft that was made for the same modem but different provider. Ufff.... I updated my HP drivers and switched my antivirus as I already mentioned before. Running Vuze now. I'll let you know how it goes!
