Win 7 explorer.exe crashes frequently?

Hello there,

I've just recently converted from xp to 7 and i feel like all my knowledge on computers has gone.

I've only had my new laptop for 3 days and ever since i started using it i have had crashes, i do not get any error codes or BSOD's the laptop just becomes unresponsive so i have to turn the machine off by the power button.

After a certain period of time (random, sometimes crashes after a couple of hours, others a few minutes) a program or the explorer in general acts like it is loading but really has crashed and there is no way of it closing and restarting, if i do manage to get a program to close then i can't re-open it, i click on the icon but nothing appears.

Also after a certain period of time when i try to right-click on an icon on the desktop/start panel etc. the system crashes and becomes unresponsive as well.

I can manage to get the system to restart but even then (after experiencing a crash) i have to turn it off by the power button.

I realise this is very long-winded and probably won't make much sense but ever since i've gone from xp to 7 i feel like a complete novice.

I have performed various malware/registry scans to no avail in fixing the problem.

I hope somebody can provide me with anyway to sort this problem without having to send my laptop back.

Thank you.

You probably did do a clean install since I'm thinking you can't do it any other way going from XP to 7, but in case you didn't....

Microsoft recommends a "clean" install when going from XP to Windows 7.... Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7 - Help & How-to - Microsoft Windows

With that said, it's best to reinstall Windows 7 doing a clean install... Clean Install Windows 7

Or this.... Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

The other things to do is make sure ALL your drivers are up to date, including the motherboard's chipset, and are Windows 7 capable.

Good luck
