I would guess it was a natural progression from Vista Forums

Just like Windows 8 Forums is a progression of sevenforums

Yep, i know that, but at the beginning of VistaForums? Was there anything else...? Did it begin with VistaForums...?
The genesis in any way... The creator(s), the year, the location(s)...

    Anything is welcome...

I joined in early 2009. I came from Vista Forum, which had become my favourite and regular forum when I sought help and information as an early adopter of Vista x64.
So I had become a regular on there and, just as there is now a Windows 8 forum, I was aware of the Windows 7 forum. I had visited and lurked several times.
Then when I heard that the 7 Beta was "in the wild" I joined and installed it as a dual boot with Vista.
Almost immediately it replaced Vista as my main interest and, indeed my main OS.
The incredible buzz around "leaked" new builds is hard to describe. There were some people that seemed to be online 24 hours a day speculating on when a new build was coming and whether this next one would be as good as the the one before last.
There were leaks from mysterious Russian sources. There were the "Frankenbuilds". These were made by some of our members when it was not a full ISO that had leaked.
I can recall getting up at about 4.30 am to download a leaked build and install it. Then desperately trying to set it all up before I had to leave for work and have to wait all day to get back and try it.
That was an amazing time for me and I felt really close to the others on the forum at the time. This sparked all sorts of things for me and is a feeling I still get today
It was also quite a revelation for me because I'd not previously been a proper member of any kind of forum. I'd joined a few to ask questions, got help and not really got into it.
Neither had I been into any of the social network stuff that had been going on.
So this was the first time that I'd become friendly with someone from the other side of the world who I'm never gonna meet.
    That's weird s**t

    Right you are JW!
You could write a best selling novel about them early days on SF. That was some exciting times.
