This morning on National Radio the launch of a new historical database was announced whereby it is possible to feed into the search page where you live in the UK and it will tell you who owned the land and all the details as it was when the Domesday Book was written. Trouble is the search criteria are so complicated that you need the search answers to complete the search form. A real catch 22 situation. The various links on the site just return "Internet Explorer could not display this page" and that includes the help section which you need to download as a PDF document but there is no access to it. This may, of course, be due to overload of the system as it has only just been announced.
A number of Universities have been involved with this project, no doubt, at huge expense but I fear it's usage will be somewhat limited. Be interested to hear what other UK members make of it. The link is here: http://domesday.pase.ac.uk/
