    Snouts in the Trough

    Hi all
I'm not a UK Voter so I'm not trying to make Political capital on a Technical Forum -- but as an external observer I have to be fairly "amused" in how even in the UK which claims to have "The Mother of Parliaments" some members of that "Honorouble Institution" just "forgot" when their mortgages were paid up and were still collecting "tax reliefs".

Iceland whiilst having a fairly generous Social Security system would still come down really hard on people who for example apply for unemployment benefit and "forget to tell the authorities" if they start working again.

Maybe Politicians from Zimbabwe aren't so bad -- at least if there IS any of this sort of stuff there's no surprise and nobody pretends otherwise.

(Mods - please delete if inappropriate -- I'm not actually trying to make a political point here in favour of any party -- just that I'm surprised that when "Freedom of Information" is opened up how even supposed "squeaky clean " people misuse a system.)

Thank goodness for the Freedom of Information Act -- now operative in the whole of the EU but originated in the US.

    Cheers

I'm going to allow this as it couldn't turn into an argument as we all hate the robbing parasites.

We've all seen, in recent days, a number of MPs apologising profusely about erroneously claiming expenses to which they weren't entitled. The only thing that any of them are sorry about is the fact that this has come to light, thanks to the Freedom of Information Act and a well-known broadsheet newspaper. They also claimed that they were acting within the rules, but who wrote the rules (and amended them when and where necessary)? They did.

Maybe I'm not up on my U.K. politics but we, in the U.S., have our share of corrupt officials. Take the last 8 years, as an example. The scandalous nature and behavior of policy makers will never be fully told. As for what's happening in Europe (Iceland, Denmark and even Sweden) from what I understand, the social safety nets are being clogged with the despondent and the indigenous people are paying the bill - a significant burden, indeed.

Things will never change. What I will always struggle with is how we are supposed to make societies work; We're a collection of self-interests and we're, somehow, supposed to get along.

As I keep saying, they dont need a second home, just a nice appartment in London. That should suffice. None of this claiming for chandaliers and swimming pools which arent even necessary for them to do their job.

The tax payer has just shelled out for an Olympic village that nobody else would fund, surely this would be ideal MP housing.

TBH I've found this very entertaining, everyday we get the chance to watch one of the slimy maggots squirm trying to defend their claims, although it is beginning to drag a little and we could do with a big climax, as a final scene I would love for Prince Charles to burst into Parliament then grab the mace and beat Gorbals Mick to death with it before declaring "Me mam sent me to tell you your all fired"

Prince Charles doesn't have the (ahem) sack for that. King George, on the other hand, that's who is needed for a situation like this.
