Remove Windows Login password and REQUIRE fingerprint reader?

I was wondering if this is possible. Less people can hack into my computer. I am the administrator and only user of the laptop.

    EDIT:
Could you please move this to the proper board?

I've seen this before, it's similar in principle to logging in with a smart card. I believe it's possible but I'd have to double check.

EDIT: Found the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader can do this, http://windowsteamblog.com/Windows/b...ows-vista.aspx, I'm assuming there are others out there that can do this. This was with Vista but I'm sure 7 should support this functionality.

My fingerprint reader is built into the laptop. Look at my specs. HP Pavilion dv7.

There should be HP Software then that should allow this functionality.

I have a HP Elitebook and I've been trying to do the same. Doesn't seem to be a way.

Anyway, even if the password textbox is shown at login, you can still swipe the finger to login without clicking "Other Credentials" and selecting the Fingerprint icon. Fingerprint swipe works even if the password textbox is currently shown.

One thing you could do is set an impossibly long and complex password, and use the fingerprint login. But it is risky in case you forget the password and are not able to use the fingerprint swipe.

Since its HP, I would assume its an Authentec Fingerprint Reader and that you are using Truesuite Fingerprint software. Is that correct ?

You can get the full details about your hardware using Speccy

PSU stands for Power Supply Unit :)

Given that Winlogon and security providers are no longer the same, I do not think it's possible to *only* allow fingerprint logon in anything higher than XP/2003. I don't think you can disable the inbox Windows password provider, and while you can add to it (aka smartcard, fingerprint providers, etc) you can't *force* a secondary one at the expense of the default provider.

I know you can make fingerprint logon the default via the Biometric devices control panel applet, but you will still have an "other credentials" button you cannot dispel with which a user can click to enter a username\password and log in without using the fingerprint reader.

Don't remember off of the top of my head, but if you open control panel and type "Biometric" and search, it should come up.
