    Bing Android app

Those of you with an Android phone might want to check out the new free MS Bing app on the market. Quite a well written app, especially being in version 1 status. I think it might only show up for those on the Verizon network at this point (Droid, Droid 2, Droid X, Incredible, etc..). Unless someone posts the separate .apk for it. Few pics of it from my Droid. Under "Bing" on the market.

I use an iPhone, but it looks like the Bing app is essentially the same style/functionality for both platforms. Which is nice.

Does Android allow you to use Bing natively as a search engine in its web browser, or is it locked to Google?

Um, with the native browser I don't think you can pick different search providers, but you can change your home page to anything/provider. So you could do it that way. But there are also other browsers out you could use that might let you have different search providers, not sure. You could also use the Bing search bar widget that comes with the app, on the home screen.

I figured as much. So nice, then, that Bing now has a proper app!

Wow, didn't even realize that BING was still in existence.

That reminds me of a blog post I read recently expressing disgusted shock that Hotmail was still around.

Bing is the third-largest search engine, surpassed only by Google and Yahoo!, and Yahoo! results come from Bing now (I believe they are working it in slowly).

That's kinda like saying that RC cola is third, only behind Coca-Cola and Pepsi.

Being off topic, but have you rooted your phone to get screenshots like that? The way I'm currently doing it to get screenshots off my phone is to do it through USB debugging mode with the Android SDK.

With Pepsi getting and using the same ingredients from the people who make RC Cola?

Yeah, I have it rooted. Running CyanogenMod-6 ROM ATM - latest Froyo 2.2 build FRG22D. The little camera icon you see in my shots is from the Drocap2 app. I think most popular screenshot app for (rooted) android.

Annoying how you can only screen capture with rooted phones. Got 2.2 released officially on my Desire about 4 or 5 weeks ago, so will wait until there's something properly worthwhile to root mine for
