    Hi Jimbo45

That old Ford was something else completely. By the time I got it, the floorboards had long rotted away and the drivers seat was balanced on the rusty cross-member. Thus, applying the brakes meant that the seat shot forward and fell off the member, and one wound up nearly sitting on the road with the steering wheel above one's head

I well remember getting a puncture in the nearside front wheel one day. I managed to get as far as the lower yard and got a load of tools but, with no jack I couldn't figure out how to change the wheel. Into the yard lumbered old Johnny Hardin who had been working on the farm all his life since been taken on by my grandfather when he was but a young lad to help with the cart horses. Farm work had made him big, very big indeed. He wandered over and asked if I would like some help. I explained the problem, whereupon he leaned down, grasped the front of the car and then lifted it clear of the ground, holding it while I changed the wheel. The expression "a gentle giant" suited old Johnny like a glove.

He lived to the ripe old age of 98 and I have always felt privileged to have known him.

Not only did that old car serve me well, it started my life long love of engineering. I have now completed 48 years servicing military strike aircraft and the company I currently work for have asked me to stay on for another year. But that will be the last. At almost 70 I feel I've done enough.

Time to buy another old car and start playing again

A 1966 Buick Skylark. Bought in 1977 when it was almost 12 and I was barely 18.

Everything worked, including the clock and A/C. Good memories. :)

This one is not mine, but same color, etc.
Isn't that a Dodge Duster in the photo?

I see noobvious has already corrected me. I meant to say, "Isn't that a Dodge DART in the photo?" I'm almost ashamed to call myself a car-guy.

It looks like it does say Dodge across the front, but Duster was a Plymouth model.

    Maybe.

That's the good ol' Google for you. (It does at least look familiar, though...)

This is more like it, the interior shots make me feel a little more certain:

HowStuffWorks "1966 Buick Skylark Gran Sport: A Profile of a Muscle Car"

I don't remember anything about "Gran Sport", though. Think I had the basic version.

Yes it is time to restore a vintage car. I have two vintage Triumph bikes, one fully restored. I am working on restoring a Model A Ford and my other Vintage Triumph Tiger. I am about a year younger than you.

My first car and still is a 1996 Ford Mustang.. auto transmission V6 engine... wonderful in the summer, horrible in the winter gotta love rear wheel drive..
    Ryan,

Nice Mustang. I drove a 1994 Trans Am for 12 years as my only car. 325 HP V8, auto trans, Z-rated tires. Here in the Great Lakes region, big horsepower, fat tires, and rear wheel drive means trouble in the winter. I'm proud of the fact that I never got in an accident driving in the winter.

If you can drive a car like my TA or your Mustang safely in the winter, you are quite a good driver. The car makes you think ahead all the time. Going up even the slightest hills can be a challenge.

In the summer, I was one of the quickest drivers out there - just up to the speed limit, of course! In the winter, I was one of the slowest vehicles on the road.

My first car back in '64 was a 1950 model Morris Minor convertable.

Not my car in this pic, but looked the same. Mine was white with red/brown roof.

The other car is our present one, bought new in '95 and still own it. Ford Falcon XR8 in cobalt blue with a 302 Windsor. Gotta love V8's. :)
