New laptop to buy? with no optical drive?

Hello, im planing to buy new laptop, and i was thinking, y do i need an optical drive at at all? o.o when do i used mine DVD/RW last time? i cant remeber... i use flash drives to transfer files and stuff. but, to get a bluray one its still to mutch expensive, and im not planing to burn bluray disc's or just read them. so i was wondering.. if laptop would dont have optical drive, how lot space would be left inside case to put more stuff for faster laptop? o.o and maybe whole laptop would be little smaller (not smaller as screen).

So maybe u guys know any laptops like this? with no optical drive at all? but laptop should have 15' or 17' inch display :P Mostly in brand im interesting to buy is Sony and them sexy VAIO :P but i wana hear any suggestions :)

Some people leave out the optical drive so as to get a smaller, lighter notebook. And it might be cheaper. I used my optical drive all the time.

I suggest you mention a price range to help others in the forum assist you better.

Any more powerful notebook will come with an optical drive anyways.

Only small netbooks skip them, and that is only to save space.

my laptop came with a "smartbay". i can switch between an optical drive, a hard drive, or a battery. and i believe they are all optional when ordering. mine is from alienware, but hp uses smartbay also.
