Halloween, unfortunately, is fading away from Switzerland because it is a commercial flop. A few years ago, the shop had lots of Halloween paraphernalia - now there's hardly anything, and no Halloween events are organised except among the UK and US expats. It promised to be "trendy" but fell out of favour because it's simply not a tradition hereabouts and only became fashionable for a short while because it was (over)commercialised.
What did happen was that back then, when the shops were still keen on the event, we had kids (dressed up in old bed sheets) ringing persistently at our door (because we had placed a pumpkin lantern outside) and simply ask (or rather demand) for biscuits or candy. They didn't seem to understand the Trick-and-Treat principle.
After three or four bell-ringing and biscuit-demanding sessions, my father got so fed up that he climbed on a ladder and temporarily deactivated the doorbell ;-D
Halloween took a turn for the worst in our house when I left a broomstick outside the front door and told my wife her taxi had arrived - cue mucho tongue pie!!
