There are some people who are advert doll collectors and have some rather extravagant collections to boot. Often those are parents whose kids have grown up and moved leaving lonely parents behind especially where only one living parent remains.

As for the video clip there as well as the planned NASA launch that shows a degree of miniturization and complex programming at work for just those simple tasks. When the day comes that the waiter at the restaurant who greets you and takes your order speaks in a metallic voice then you'll be chilled!

ASIMO is probably the most advanced artificial intelligence there is at the moment.

Still an extremely long way to go until there is true AI, but when a robot can learn like that, it's certainly getting somewhere.

would asimo still think the table wasn't a chair if they had removed the table-cloth? i don't think so...

(that's the trouble with these edited videos - they'll only show the positive results. i do wonder if they tried without the cloth, and asimo got it wrong, then someone had the bright idea of covering it up with a multicoloured cloth.)

still, it did learn, and i would love to have a good play with asimo - nice name, i'm sure isaac would be pleased. :)

as for the 'human' looking one, well its speech seems completely preprogrammed for the video...

tell me, will i dream when i get turned off?
but i am sure that if i feel anything after being powered down, then it will be the pain of missing you.
yeah right, the android thought that up on its own

It might have still thought the table was a chair without the cloth, but for basic AI like that, it could still differentiate between two objects, and still saw the similarity between two objects as well.

That life like robot does look like it's pre-programmed. It's like them chat programs that are supposedly AI that have a bunch of pre-programmed responses.

I've been following ASIMO for quite a while now, and it has come a very long way. I remember when it was struggling to walk down some steps, lol. I study AI in University, and really hope I get to meet it one day

I wouldn't be surprized to hear that asimo was nothing more then a series of preprogrammed responses there either for show! You would need to present and spend some actual inperson observations in order to know if someone was genuine or simply "pulling the wool" down over eyes.

You can certainly make them look human enough but adding consciousness to microchips? Top 5 Most Human-Looking Robots

That one likely has a build in microwave option! "ready in a minute! no standing in line at the microwave! it walks to you directly!"
