    Read a newspaper...

...or watch the local news. Sentence fragmentation and slang have pervaded our media. What's more disturbing is that the people turning out this dreck are COLLEGE GRADUATES with degrees in Journalism, requiring 4 years of "English" classes! And, at least in the newspaper realm, stories are (supposedly) read and edited by people who are (supposedly) more experienced, and should know better!

I say, bring back the ruler across the knuckles every time someone screws it up. Clean up our educational system, and stop coddling the little ones that don't conform to basic rules in favor of individuality. I say, get editors and proofreaders that actually know English and stop letting these dolts ruin the language of Shakespeare and Whitman and Frost.

Being from Belfast one thing I and a lot of people do is say "like" at the end of everything where it has no place. For example, "You know what I mean like" "Nah like" Aye like" "Dead on like" the list goes on. I generally think that the Northern Irish take on English might as well be a version of it's own like the US because some of it is just weird .

I understand that every generation needs to mutate it's words to keep their parents from understanding. But once out in the real world this hybrid language is just gibberish. I'm guilty of it myself and I really should clean up my own act before going on any further. I type like I talk and I certainly don't speak the Queens English but I try to do my best in social situations and in business after all we are constantly being judged. Take the time someday as my father had me do and tape yourself as you speak to someone anytime any place then play it back. I was aghast at the number of times I said uh, or you know. These things drove my father nuts and I've been working on them ever since and it's not easy once you decide this is an approved way to speak. I'm just afraid one day soon we'll just speak in slang, abbreviations, twist of phrases, acronyms and text speak.

The current education system is inefficient. About twenty two years spent "learning", and we don't retain as much as necessary. What a waste...

I'm thinking about "implementing" knowledge as a data "package" when a child is born. Then as the brain, or mind as you will, matures the package will gradually "unpack". Efficiency at it's elegance.

I hate language pollution. If you can't talk right, please just shut up. That's just my thought though.

Meh, they're better off, the benefit greatly outweighs the risk. Pretty much saving eight or more years of a persons life, also, their intelligence will be superior.

Look at it this way It might be languge pollution to most of you but it might be the best way to act like one of them to get out of bad situations not saying you should be in them but what you refer to as pollution is slang and im pretty sure if you knew a little slang when it called for it you would be glad you knew it

Personaly myself i do it alot of times but only when im around people i need to use it with for me it is a on and off switch I used to manage many people different types all with ego's and attitudes some not I had to learn how to talk with all of them and still keep my own way i was taught to speak english in tact not easy

Alot older generations surely wouldnt understand as to change of times but alot of older people are accepting it my father is 73 years old he has recently in the past 4 years been learning computers and building them i think that is way beyond change of times it shows other generations can adapt no matter how much they hate how people dress talk and carry themselves

In no way im protecting anyone who has went to school and had somewhat of a education if they blew it off that is thiere fault some people take what society thinks of them seriously others are just fumbling through life making excuses pretty much just wondering what side is everyone on ?

I believe people have this imbecilic idea embedded into their brains that speaking in an improper manner, slang as you will, makes them "cool". They believe that makes them "street smart" when in fact, no such thing exists except of minds of those inferior in intelligence or even those who are simply too lazy to move their tongue a few centimeters and excrete a little more CO2 to produce a sound which is a way our species communicate.

I'm afraid of my and future generations, I keep on seeing people corrupted by ignorance. I'm afraid of the world falling onto our hands.
