since windows 7 has been out for a while does your school/education facility use windows 7 or vista? mines does not they still downgrade to xp it is a shame since all the computer lessons are on a outdated OS.

The schools I know in Finland all have Windows XP. There probably are exceptions, but still I would say that the most used OS is XP.

It's bad thing for students. I think they need the newest platform for learning. There is no idea to teach to do all things with XP because it will get outdated soon.

Hi...not trying to start an argument, but was just curious. What is it you can't do on the schools computer, that you could do if the OS was win7?

W7 has all kinds of improved functionality under the hood. Many more built in command-line options for adminning and IT in general. More networking options, tons more UI options for coding. A brand new "Media Foundation" that is replacing DirectX.

All those things should be learned NOW by students if they want to get jobs in IT or programming Windows in the future...

The school I worked in Tews, had bars and razor wire.
It was called a "School of Hardnocks!" It was a prison for some of the worst of the worst!
    Quite an eye opener.

Yeah, I can see how Win7 would be a benefit for an IT Tech. But, I don't necessarily agree that "all those things should be learned NOW by the students". I think the curriculum should focus on the necessities (math, literature, music, etc), and let the student decide later if he wants to pursue a career in IT.

Well I guess I instantly thought of college actually where that was the intended purpose. But any programming or other actual computer classes in HS should be up to date too. If it's just a situation where there is a computer giving a math test then no it doesn't matter at all :)

Still, downgrading the machines is a shame.
