If you can wait till end of August or 1st of Sept. I would and have taken 2 cruise trips to Alaska. I would go again in a hearbeat.

That sound like that going to be fun but since right now its November and winter is coming at any moment I wanted to stay somewhere more tropical or warm for the winter(Hibernate there then migrate back up north for summer).

I live in Florida (in the winter). It is pretty dull except if you like sand (beaches). I have lived in California for 4 years. That is a truely exciting state. Regardless where you go (except LA) it is world class. Puerto Rico I don't know. I only hear that there is a lot of crime.
The cruise suggestion is good too. There are a lot now out of Florida and if you shop around, they are not very expensive. On a cost/day basis they are actually pretty cheap.

Edit: Hibernation is a different story. For that Florida is the best because of the low prices in most areas. And the sun shines all winter.

Yea, I also don't want to spend 3 months+ on a ship and the whole Puerto Rico thing is only a sterotype and that its a nice place to chill.

U.S. Virgin Islands are supposed to be really nice. No Passport needed.

Cruise ships usually 5-10 days. Most run 7 days but you may need a passport or be stuck onboard.

I can only tell you about the weather in Houston. Today it was about 70 degrees and beautiful. We might have a freeze or two in January. There is not a lot here for tourist attractions.
